Blue Shield of California recognized for wellness efforts

Blue Shield of California has been recognized in its effort to promote healthier workforces, earning awards from the American Heart Association and the California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness.

Blue Shield has been recognized for the third year in a row as a Start! Fit-Friendly Company – its second consecutive Platinum Award – the American Heart Association's highest recognition. For the company's promotion and implementation of walking workstations – treadmills with integrated phones and computers – Blue Shield also received the Worksite Fitness Innovation Award.

This year marks the first Gold-level award from the California Task Force in recognition of the company's efforts to create environments that promote healthy choices.

"We have committed to defining a next-generation wellness model to keep our employees healthy and engaged," said Marianne Jackson, senior vice president for human resources at Blue Shield of California. "We are honored and excited to be recognized by the American Heart Association and the California Task Force on Youth and Workplace Wellness for our efforts to provide the best workplace environment possible."

As employee healthcare costs soar, Blue Shield of California represents one of the many companies that are beginning to embrace comprehensive and inclusive wellness programs aimed at curbing costs.
