Chrysler honored for "innovative" incentive program for employee health

The National Business Group on Health has honored Chrysler as having one of the top healthy workplaces in the country by awarding the automaker a Silver Award in the organization’s annual best Employer for Healthy Lifestyles awards.

This is the second consecutive year – and the third time in the last six years – that Chrysler has earned the award. Chrysler was the only automaker among the 66 companies that received recognition.

"This award validates our invested efforts in our employee wellness programs and shows that we never lost focus on what’s really important – the well-being of our employees – even through challenging economic times," said Nancy A. Rae, senior vice president of human resources for Chrysler.

Chrysler started its employee wellness program – which serves both union and non-union workers – back in 1985. The program includes a variety of health workshops and screenings, and uses a series of incentive programs to encourage participation.

The company has also made great strides with its new manufacturing and workforce safety program. A presentation on the company’s website said that Chrysler expected to see a 30-percent reduction in workplace injuries this year.
